This course will examine four essential doctrines of the Bible, including 1) the authority of Scripture, 2) the Triune Godhead, 3) the divinity of Jesus, and 4) man's redemption.
We will begin with how God has revealed Himself in His Word and then progress to the other doctrines to make practical applications of these essential doctrines to our service to Christ.
1. To assist the student in grasping foundational doctrines of the Christian faith, emphasizing what the church has taught throughout its history.
2. To develop a biblical literacy and worldview so that students will be challenged and equipped to articulate what they believe and why.
3. To be equipped to identify false teachings regarding each doctrine.
4. To communicate a reasonable faith in a contemporary culture of competing
The class text is "The Great Doctrines of the Bible" by William Evans. The book is available on Amazon or you may click on the link at the bottom of the syllabus to view an online version. All of the chapters in this text are not required for class. Only the following chapters are required reading:
THE DOCTRINE OF JESUS CHRIST
THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
THE DOCTRINE OF MAN
THE DOCTRINE OF SALVATION
DOCTRINE OF THE SCRIPTURES
Additionally, there will be a handout of a comprehensive overview of the class (approximately 360 pages) for a cost of $20 which you can pay for at the class.
After our class meeting, you will be required to write and submit a three-page report on the doctrines we will discuss in class. Your report should include what you have learned from both the readings and the class presentation. You will not be required to analyze but rather summarize the doctrines and how they combine to help us share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. Written Homework is due by December 27 along with an email confirming you have completed the required reading.
