THE DOCTRINE OF GOD AND ITS IMPORTANCE FOR DEVOTION, PREACHING, AND TEACHING
Professor: Joey Weaver
Who is God? What are His attributes? Why does this matter?
Theology is often seen as a “high and lofty” study that doesn’t impact day-to-day living and ministry.
Who God is; What God is; Why God is are at the core of what Christianity.
This course will demonstrate the importance of a correct (orthodox) doctrine of God and how that view should impact your devotional life, preaching, and teaching.
After this course you should be able to discuss the attributes of God and their significance in Christian life.
You will write 2 devotions (designed to be given in 5 minutes) on 2 different attributes of God. The devotion should briefly explain the attribute, then give a practical application and admonition. Devotion #1 is due 11/7 ; Devotion #2 is due 12/7
You will write 1 sermon/ teaching outline on an attribute of God. This can be “bare bones,” no need for a lot of words just headings and subheadings with ideas written out. Due 1/6/2018
You will read the chapter on the doctrine of God in Millard Erickson’s Introducing Christian Doctrine. You must email an affirmation to the professor that you have done this reading by 1/5/2018
Papers and affirmation of reading should be emailed to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Introducing Christian Doctrine third edition, Millard Erickson.
